このパネルは、欧米でのゲーム開発の詳細を知りたい開発者向けに用意されました。 パネリストの背景が非常に多様であるため様々なテーマが検討されますので、アーティスト、デザイナー、プロデューサー、マネージャーの方々に非常に適したセッションとなります。 パネリストが提供する知識のすべてを把握するためには、業界である程度の経験を持っていることが望まれます。

This panel is designed for developers interested to learn more about how things are done in the West. Due to the very varied background of our panelists, a wide variety of themes will be treated, making this panel very suitable for artists, designers, producers and managers. To grasp all the subtleties of the panelists’ wisdom, it is required for the audience to have a certain level of experience in our industry.

The goal of this Panel it to make you think out of the box, think differently about how things could be done in terms of development, get you to understand and consider seriously how the most successful western developers are doing things.

セッションの内容
プロセス、チーム構成、意思決定、プロジェクト・ライフサイクルなど、日本と欧米のゲーム開発のありかたには大きな違いがあります。幅広い課題と分野を横断するディスカッションをもつために、アート、デザイン、テクニカルアート、テクノロジーなどの多様な経験をもつスピーカーに集まってもらいました。可能な限りのベストな提案やアイデアを確実に皆さんに持ち帰ってもらうために、欧米でベストといわれているゲーム会社、Infinity Ward, ArenaNet/Ubisoft, Guerrilla Games, Insomniac Gamesのゲーム開発者を招待しました。また、欧米と日本の開発スタイルの両方に精通しているQ-Gamesのスピーカーからはこのセッションに有意義な提案を与えてくれるでしょう。彼らはどのように仕事をしているのか、彼らの経験に基づいてどのようにしたらより良い開発作業ができるのかなどをパネルスピーカー達から学びましょう! 彼らは、あなたの知識、情熱、経験を共有してくれることも楽しみにCEDECに来ている欧米開発者達です。是非、あなたの質問をぶつけてください。彼らは、日本のゲーム開発者コミュニティーのより大きな成功に貢献できることを願っています!

There is a significant difference between how Games are developed in Japan and in the West, in terms of Processes, Team Structures, decision making, Project Life Cycles and much more! In order to tackle a wide variety of topics and have cross discipline discussions, we have gathered for you speakers that have a very varied background: Art, Design, Technical Art, and Technology. In order to make sure you get the best recommendations possible, the speakers come from the best western Companies you could think of: Infinity Ward, ArenaNet/Ubisoft, Guerrilla Games, and Insomniac Games. Q-Games knowing both Western style development and the Japanese one, its involvement in the Panel will be very fruitful.
Come and learn from our panelists how they are doing things, and based on their experience, how they think things could be done even better!

ジュリアン・マーセロン

経歴:
ジュリアンは20年以上の経験をもつエンジン・テクノロジーの専門家です。UbisoftでRaymanやFar Cryなどのタイトルにかかわり、またミドルウエアの開発や戦略なども担当しました。2005年にWorldwide CTOとしてEidosに入社。その後、スクエアエニックスのWorldwide Technology Directorとしてエンジン開発やTomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Hitman, Deus EXなどのタイトルにかかわりました。2013年にKonamiに移籍してFox Engineの開発、Metal Gear Solid V、Pro Evolution Soccer等にかかわり、2016年からBandai Namco StudioのWorldwide Technology Directorとして活躍しています。

Julien started as a programmer on the Atari Jaguar in the early 90s at Shen Technologies in Paris. He then joined Ubisoft Entertainment to work in game and engine teams before becoming the worldwide technical director of Ubisoft Entertainment in 1999. In this role, he played a major part in the studio's creation, organization, technology, production pipeline design, and multi-platform strategy, as well as in AAA features integration, on brands such as 'Rayman', 'Far Cry', 'Splinter Cell', 'Prince of Persia', and 'Assassin's Creed'. He also took responsibility for middleware and development strategy, communication and cooperation strategy, and hardware manufacturers and middleware relations. At the end of 2005, after having worked extensively on PS3 / XBox360, Julien pursued his career at Eidos, where he served as the worldwide CTO working on the technology strategy, before getting involved in initiating Eidos Montreal and Eidos Shanghai Studios. Julien became the worldwide technology director for Square Enix Group, working on a wide variety of engines and franchises including 'Tomb Raider', 'Final Fantasy', 'Hitman', 'Deus Ex' and 'Kingdom Hearts'. In 2013, he joined Konami as the worldwide technology director to oversee Fox Engine, work directly on the acclaimed 'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain', and help advance many games in the group including 'Pro Evolution Soccer' 2015 and 2016.
Julien joined Bandai Namco Studios early 2016, where he now serves as their worldwide technology director.

ジェイソンは約20年以上もの間ゲーム製作にたずさわってきました。つい最近、ArenaNet社に入社しましたが、それ以前はUbisoftやEAなどのメジャーなゲーム会社に所属していました。長年のあいだジェイソン個人の探求であったFor Honor(華麗なる刀のファイティングゲーム)の制作ではクリエイティブ・ディレクターを務め、それ以前は多くのAAAタイトルのゲーム制作にかかわりました。ジェイソンは、プレイヤーのモチベーションや実践的なゲームデザインのモデルに興味があり、彼のトークである「Engines of Play」(GDCや他で講演)は常によい評価を得ています。 いいえ!彼は杖の中に刀を隠してなんかいません。でもそうだとしたら、かっこよくありませんか?

Jason VandenBerghe has been making video games for over twenty years. He has recently joined ArenaNet, and has worked at several other major publishers before that. He served as the Creative Director on For Honor, a game that was a personal quest for him for many years, and has directed a long list of successful AAA projects before that. Jason has a great interest in player motivation and practical game design models, and his talks on the Engines of Play (at the GDC and elsewhere) have been consistently well-received. And, no, he doesn't have a sword in his cane, but wouldn't it be cool if he did?

経歴:
Maartenはインダストリアル・デザイン・エンジニアリングを学び、2007年にGuerrilla Gamesでコンセプト・アートのインターンとしてスタートしました。 彼はコンセプト・アーティストとしてKillzoneのゲームに取り組みましたが、Killzone Shadow Fallの開発中にアートディレクションに移行しました。常にコードやゲームテクノロジーに関心を持っていましたが、Horizon Zero Dawnの開発中にテクニカルなアートのソリューションに多くの時間を費やしました。この経験が、彼をテクニカル・アート・ディレクターの役割に移行させることとなりました。

Maarten studied Industrial Design Engineering and during these studies started at Guerrilla Games in 2007 as a concept art intern. He worked on the Killzone games as a concept artist, but transitioned to art direction during the development of Killzone Shadow Fall. While always interested in code and game technology, during the development of Horizon Zero Dawn he spent a lot of time on technical art solutions. This eventually led him to transition into the role of technical art director.

Brian Horton is a 21 year veteran of the games industry and a Creative Director at Infinity Ward. His clients include Disney, DreamWorks, EA, LucasArts, Konami, Activision and Square Enix. Brian was Game Director on Rise of the Tomb Raider and Studio Art Director for Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Tomb Raider 2013, and Lead Artist for Silent Hill Homecoming, Marc Ecko’s Getting Up, Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb, Clive Barker’s Undying. He has a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and has worked as an artist in comics and fine art.

経歴:
アンドレアスは現在米国のロサンゼルスに住んでいるスウェーデン人でInsomniac Gamesで仕事をしています。 Insomniacの独自のエンジン・テクノロジーを使って、RatchetやClank PS4、Sunset Overdriveなどのタイトルにかかわってきました。 米国に移住する前は、スウェーデンのストックホルムでFrostbiteゲーム・エンジンにかかわる仕事をしていました。

Andreas is a Swede now living in Los Angeles, USA where he works for Insomniac Games. At Insomniac, he has worked on Insomniac's proprietary engine technology which powers titles like Ratchet and Clank PS4 and Sunset Overdrive. Before moving to the US, he worked on the Frostbite game engine in Stockholm, Sweden.

経歴:
ジェームスは2002年にQ-Gamesに入社。英国、カナダ、日本での経験がある。PlayStation3のOS用のグラフィックスの開発とビルトイン・ビジュアライザーの開発に携わってきた。 さらに、プレイステーション4の独自タイトル「The Tomorrow Children」でリアルタイム・ボクセル・コーン・トレース・レンダリングのライティングと実行に取り組んだ。 ジェームズの興味は、GPU、SPU、ボクセル、ウェイブレットなどである。

James joined Q-Games in 2002 and has worked in the UK, Canada and Japan. He has been involved with the development of graphics for the PlayStation 3 OS and built-in visualizers. He went on to work on the exclusive PlayStation 4 title, “The Tomorrow Children”, working on lighting and implementing realtime voxel cone tracing renders. James' interests are in GPUs, SPUs, Voxels and Wavelets amongst other things.
